Vehicle Description Chassis No. 350442 Engine No. 830991 Transmission No. 221516 According to its factory Kardex, chassis 350442 was completed on 22
July 1965 with engine number 830991 and a desirable five-speed
gearbox, finished in extra-cost Dolphin Grey (6410) over Black
leatherette upholstery with corduroy seat inserts, and equipped
from new as it appears today with a sliding sunroof, chrome steel
wheels, antenna, loudspeaker, and Dunlop tires-likely rivalling
many 911s on the basis of total cost! The Kardex further records
delivery through Schultz of Dsseldorf to first owner Werner
Kossmann on 26 July 1965, with numerous warranty claims recorded
through 1967. Few early 912s better capture the model's transitional character
than this exceptionally uncommon, painted-dash, three-gauge
example. As reported by a previous owner on the 912 Bulletin Board
System forum, it found its way to California through Ogner Porsche
Audi, retaining its Ogner license plate frames along the way.
Submitted for restoration in Southern California circa 2010, the
car was noted to have been repainted in Pearlescent White at some
point during its life, though its original Dolphin Grey finish
survived in the door jambs and on the dashboard. After stripping
the rest of the car to bare metal, the last three chassis digits,
"442," were noted to be stamped into the headlight buckets-a
telltale sign of body originality on 912s. The car was subsequently refinished in its original Dolphin Grey
livery, with the restoration still presenting beautifully some 16
years later. With its rare factory sunroof and five-speed gearbox,
matching-numbers status, and rare early-production details, this
wonderfully preserved 912 is ready to be enjoyed on the open
road. Read more
